Bridlington Town are back in league action today after their mid-week exit from the East Riding Senior Cup.
Bridlington Town's busy schedule continues as they take on Sherwood Colliery in the Northern Premier League East Division today. Due to the installation of a 3G pitch at Sherwood, the fixture will be played at Rainworth Miners Welfare.
It was a shock result for Bridlington Town midweek, who lost 5-4 on penalties in the East Riding Senior Cup Second Round against Hull United of the Humber Premier League, three leagues below Bridlington Town. After a 2-2 draw in regular time, it was the amateur side who won the playoff lottery.
Some positives to take from the game were that Alex Peterson and Nathan Dyer both opened their Bridlington Town accounts. Furthermore, much needed minutes were given to some of the fringe players, with local lads Ryan Bemrose, Coby Scotter and Billy Ripley all getting run-outs whilst many of the first teamers were given a night off.
Denny Ingram said:
"I've been involved in many of these games, and it's a lose-lose."
He added:
"We wanted to win, and we wanted to progress, but we've got bigger fish to fry. Five on the bounce that we've lost, obviously is not great, however, we have now got a run of four games that is absolutely huge for where we want to be."
Those four games start with Sherwood Colliery, who won the United Counties League last season with 84 points to earn promotion to the Northern Premier League.
They've had a steady start to their new division, with 16 points from as many games seeing them occupy 15th place.
Like Bridlington Town, they were in County Cup action midweek, beating fellow NPL side Carlton Town 2-1 in the second round of the Nottinghamshire Senior Cup.
Last time out in the Northern Premier League, the Wood lost 3-1 away from home against Dunston. However, in their last home match, they beat Liversedge in a convincing 4-1 victory.
