Bridlington North Library to open Following a Full Refurbishment

Bridlington North Library has been fully refurbished after receiving £250,000 funding from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport’s Libraries Improvement Fund, along with additional council funding.

The funding has been used to transform both Bridlington North and Bridlington Central libraries, vastly improving library services within the coastal town.

North Bridlington Library, which closed on Monday, 1 September will be open to the public from 9.30am on Tuesday, 25 November.

The library has been remodelled to maximise the space, decorated and new lighting has been installed. The shelving and furniture have been upgraded to give the library a light and modern feel without losing its character, improving the overall user experience.

As part of the transformation of Bridlington North Library, several new features have been introduced to enhance the experience for all visitors.

The junior library has been relocated to the front of the building and now includes a bespoke sensory room, designed to support children’s development through interactive and calming experiences.

A dedicated Health Zone has also been installed, offering a private and comfortable setting for health and wellbeing checks, including body composition scans.

In addition, the library now boasts a flexible space for community groups and events located at the rear of the library, with a relaxing sofa area, enriched by striking ‘living wall’ panels that bring natural greenery indoors while helping to absorb carbon dioxide, creating a more sustainable and inviting environment.

The refurbishment is part of East Riding Libraries’ wider commitment to creating inclusive, inspiring spaces that support lifelong learning, digital access, and community wellbeing.

The refurbishment project aims to make Bridlington North Library a space for education, creativity, and connection, whether visitors are attending a health check, exploring sensory play with their child, or simply enjoying a good book.

Councillor Nick Coultish, cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism at East Riding of Yorkshire Council said:

“We’re delighted to announce the reopening of Bridlington North Library - a cherished space for local residents that continues to serve as a vital hub for learning, creativity, and community connection.

‘’The recent upgrades have truly transformed the library into a modern, welcoming environment, designed with a focus on delivering an inclusive and exceptional experience for all visitors. We’re confident that everyone will enjoy exploring the refreshed space and all it has to offer.”
