Bridlington North Library are set to host Poetry workshops, performances and a prize-giving
After receiving 520 entries for its ‘My Perfect Place’ poetry competition, East Riding Libraries is set to host the Poetry Palooza, a day filled with poetry-based activities and performances, suitable for adults and children alike.
Competition winners, as judged by a panel of published Yorkshire poets, will also be announced on the day during the afternoon’s prize-giving ceremony.
The event will be held on Saturday, 3 February, at Bridlington North library.
Thanks to funding from Arts Council England, the day will include an adult poetry workshop, facilitated by East Riding Poet Laureate Cassandra Parkin. East Riding Poetry Competition Judge James Nash will deliver a junior poetry workshop, aimed at ages 16 and under.
The day will also feature exciting poetry performances,
Councillor Nick Coultish, East Riding of Yorkshire Council's Cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism, said:
“This will be a superb day celebrating poetry, and all our winners as well. Come along to Bridlington North Library and enjoy a memorable day!”
Cassandra Parkin, recently appointed East Riding Poet Laureate, said:
“Poetry is a chance for all of us to share whatever's on our mind - from huge, life-changing occasions to the small moments that make the texture of our days. It's also incredibly easy to join in. All you need to get started is something to write on, something to write with, and something to say.
“There are no complicated rules to worry about (although there are lots of interesting tools), and your finished piece can be anything from a few lines to a vast, sprawling epic. I'm really excited to be leading a workshop with fellow writers at all stages of their creative journey, where we can make and share new work together.”
