The Government’s latest rolling figures, updated on Friday, show the number of infections recorded across the East Riding was 2,408 in the seven days up to Sunday, February 6, the latest with weekly data available.
A total of 58,899 new coronavirus cases were recorded nationally on Friday, bringing the total since the start of the pandemic to 18,220,515, with 193 new deaths recorded, making a total of 159,351.
The figures come as public health officials and experts from countries including France, Spain and Germany said their governments would not likely follow the UK in lifting remaining coronavirus restrictions as early as the end of the month.
They added they expected their countries to take a more cautious approach, with one German official reportedly branding the move, suggested by Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Wednesday, as brave.
