Boyes Win 2023 Scarborough Pancake Day Race

Scarborough has marked Pancake Day with it's own style of pancake racing and skipping.

The annual Shrove Tuesday pancake day racing in Scarborough took place earlier with teams from across the town competing for the coveted Golden Frying pan.

The event, organised by Scarborough Borough council, got underway on Aberdeen Walk just after midday with the Mayor, Councillor Eric Broadbent, ringing the pancake day bell.

The fancy dress clad teams then battled it out over an obstacle course designed by Everyone Active. Competitors took part in a relay race which had to be completed while flipping pancakes and wearing fancy dress.

The teams were judged on their costumes, their entertainment value and how much pancake they managed to keep in their frying pans.

15 teams took part in the event with the team from Boyes being declared the winners. They spoke to Tom Hooper after the race.

Following the racing the crowds moved to Foreshore Road for the town's traditional Shrove Tuesday skipping event which will see hundreds of local school children take part.
