Whitby Town fought back in the second half but despite scoring twice they were still on the losing end at NPL Premier leaders South Shields.
The Seasiders stay 16th but are still in trouble at the wrong end of the league table.
A disappointing first half saw Nathan Haslam's men go in 3-0 down at half-time.
Connor Simpson, sent on at half-time, scored his first goal fopr the club within four minutes of the restart.
However, Town were 4-1 down before Brad Fewster chipped home beautifully in the 89th minute.
