A youth homeless charity in Scarborough says it needs more hosts to come forward as it expects an increase in demand for it's services this winter.
Scarborough Youth Homeless charity - SASH - is looking for new hosts in Scarborough Town Centre, Falsgrave and Southcliff.
SASH provide short term places for young people who would otherwise have nowhere to go.
Tiffany Wilkey from the charity says they have already seen a big increase in demand.
Tiffany Wilkey says it's important to be able to provide accommodation locally for the young people who need it.
Tiffany says the impact the Nightstop service can have on a young persons life is amazing to see
SASH offer accommodation to young people aged 16-25 years who are facing homelessness through their Nightstop and Supported Lodgings services, which rely on volunteer ‘hosts’ who offer a spare room in their own home.
This could be either overnight or for a few days as part of their emergency Nightstop service, or for longer from a few months up to two years in the Supported Lodgings scheme.
The hosts need to be over 25 years old and have a spare room in their home. SASH hosts receive a payment to cover the costs of having a young person to stay, so they are never out of pocket. This will cover things like meals, hot water and clean washing. All hosts receive training from the SASH team as well as being allocated a dedicated Host Coordinator to take care of them throughout their placement and give them all the information they need about their young person.
Tiffany says anyone interested in becoming a host can call the SASH team to have a chat.
