Today sees the launch of Mental Health Awareness Week, the UK’s national week to raise awareness of mental health
Perhaps fittingly after months of lockdown the theme this year is about getting out and being around nature.
Throughout the week, Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale Mind are inviting people to try out a range of well-being and outdoor based activities.
Service manager Catherine Mason says it's an important week
Catherine says they are putting on a week of activities designed to get people out and about after lockdown, make new connections and try something different. All activities will be free of charge and people don’t need to be current service users of Mind to participate, however people need to pre-book a place as numbers will be limited due to Covid-19 compliance
The week is also being used as a focus to encourage more people to volunteer to help support local mental health organisations. Catherine says the volunteers at SWR Mind are a key part of their service.
The activities on offer this week included :
Monday 10th May:
Mental health drop in for people to talk to the team about support available
An early evening Seafront walk to enjoy a bit of fresh air and meet our team with refreshments provided. Well behaved dogs welcome!
