The Rainbow Centre in Scarborough say they have been overwhelmed by the response from local people to their appeal for donations of daily essentials for refugees arriving in the area from Afghanistan
The centre say that a group of Afghan refugees including 64 children have arrived in Scarborough.
The children are said to be aged from birth with many babies around 1 year old all the way to 16 years, they are all with their families.
The centre issued an appeal on Thursday evening for essential supplies, but has now said they wont be open for any more donations until at least Monday as they need the weekend to sort through all the items that have been donated today.

The leader of Scarborough Council, Cllr Steve Siddons, said that the arrangement to house the refugees had been made by the Home Office but that the council supported the decision.
He said:
“These are people who are fleeing persecution and are people who have helped the British forces in Afghanistan.
“Ultimately they will be housed elsewhere in the country but what we have got at the moment is an urgent crisis.
“My view is that most people in Scarborough would be supportive of helping people in this kind of situation as people are very kind.
“These are people who have helped our Armed Forces while they have been out there so I think we all owe them a debt of gratitude and support to try and make a new life.”
