Yorkshire Water carried out repairs near the top of Cloughton Bank.
The A171 was closed on Sunday afternoon and remained closed through Monday morning after water was spotted pouring along the carriageway.
A diversion route had been put in place taking traffic on the narrow and bendy road between Cloughton and Staintondale.
That diversion route had been very slow at times with large buses and lorries trying to navigate the narrow roads.
North Yorkshire County Council say the road reopened just after midday on Monday but that there are two way temporary traffic signals in operation and delays can be expected.
