A Week To Forget For Yorkshire Coast Cricketers

It was another winless week for our main Yorkshire Coast cricket sides with losses for Whitby, Scarborough, Bridlington and Folkton & Flixton.

Scarborough returned to Yorkshire Premier North action after a blank week last weekend.

Piet Rinke's men won the toss at Sheriff Hutton Bridge and put the hosts into bat.

At 65/3, Boro would've been pleased with the call as Guy Emmett took two early wickets and Ed Hopper also struck.

However, Bridge rallied, putting on 168 for their fourth wicket as they posted an imposing 290/5 from their 50 overs.

Emmett ended up with 3/62, Hopper 1/25 and the other wicket-taker Adam Newington with 1/81.

Boro never got going in reply, slumping to 7/3 and 34/5.

Duncan Brown tried to recover things with a more watchful than usual 23 from 42 balls.

Former skipper Pat Roberts impressed with a defiant 55 from 53 balls.

However, once he was skittled, Boro were 108/8 and were soon dismissed, with just 122 on the board.

It was a 168-run hammering to go into Monday's home clash with Acomb.

In the YPN Championship, Folkton & Flixton may have expected a tough afternoon after high-flying Stamford Bridge won the toss and chose to bat first.

The league leaders put on a century opening stand, which was ended by Max Harland's well-executed run out and cruised to 231/3.

The hosts eventually posted 296/6 from their 50 overs, despite Elliot Hatton's 3/59 and a couple of late wickets for Harry Walmsley.

In reply, the villagers lost their first wicket with just eight on the board, but recovered to 56/1, only to fall to 74/4.

Jake Hatton tried to hold the innings together with an impressive unbeaten 56 from 64 balls, while brother Elliot added 44 from just 35 balls.

In the end, the visitors fell well short as they were bowled out for 219 in the 44th over.

The 77-run defeat means Folkton & Flixton stay in fifth spot.

Bridlington are in real danger of relegation as they sit second from bottom after their latest loss.

It started so well, at Duke's Park as visitors York Second XI were reduced to 24/2, Simon Leeson and Tom Hudson doing the damage.

The away side staggered to 50/3 and 89/5 as Brid's opening pair wrecked havoc.

Brid were led frustrated at the end, though, as the away side were 127/9, only to add an infuriating half century for their final wicket.

They were finally bowled out for 177 with Leeson taking 4/49. Hudson picked up 2/39 and there were late wickets for Russell Robinson (2/19) and Casey Rudd (2/25).

However, the home side also found scoring runs difficult.

They only had 17 runs when the fourth wicket went down.

Only three batsmen made double figures as the innings quickly subsided and Brid were shot out for 82 in less than half their allotted 50 overs.

Whitby fared little better, in North Yorkshire South Durham Division One.

Visitors Richmondshire 2nds asked Kai Morris' men to bat first, at the Turnbull Ground.

Two quick wickets saw the hosts struggling at 8/2 but opener Joe Padmore led the recovery to 74/3.

However, when he was caught for 38, things quickly went south as they slumped to 84/6.

Only three other batsmen reached double figures as Morris' men were skittled for 107 in the 33rd over.

However, Whitby's bowlers were soon in their stride and must have fancied their chances when Richmondshire fell to 12/2 with Kobie Boocock grabbing both wickets.

By the time, Ricky Hall grabbed a third wicket, the away side had recovered to 75/3 and got home without further losses, with more than half their overs remaining.

Whitby are third from bottom in the table after this seven wicket defeat.
