Humberside firefighters have been called out to dozens of prank calls over the last year.
Crews across northern Lincolnshire, Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire had their time wasted by 81 malicious false alarms over 2020/21.
The worst area for this was Hull, with stations deliberately being called to non-existent incidents 54 times.
North East Lincolnshire had 17, with the majority around the Peaks Lane station area in Grimsby.
North Lincolnshire saw 19, with the Scunthorpe station responding 15 times and Winterton and Brigg twice each.
The East Riding of Yorkshire had just nine.
The figures, which are published in Humberside Fire and Rescue Service’s annual performance report, may list an incident more than once if multiple stations are called out.
The fire service hasn’t outlined the time or money that the prank calls cost.
However, the number of malicious calls was a decrease from 136 the previous financial year, which may be due to lockdowns keeping people at home for most of 2020.
Humberside Fire and Rescue also attended 1,375 false alarms with good intentions, where the caller genuinely believed there was an issue, and 2,381 instances where fire alarms and other devices had malfunctioned.
The total number of fires the service responded to across the year fell, although medical incidents significantly increased.
Crews across northern Lincolnshire, Hull and the East Riding attended 1,099 primary fires – which pose a danger to people or property – down from 1,337 the previous year.
There were also 400 fewer secondary fires, which are smaller, less serious incidents, with 2,176 reported.
Of all incidents not involving fires, medical incidents were the most common type attended by firefighters.
They rose by around a tenth last year to 1,063.
Crews were also called to make entry into a building far more times (744 up from 561), perhaps reflecting the more time people spent at home.
However, there was a noticeable reduction in road traffic accidents, which fell to 321 from 440 the year before.
