In a concerted effort to enhance road safety, officers from the Roads Policing Team have seized 67 vehicles for operating without insurance as part of a recent initiative known as Operation Drive Insured.
This operation, which took place last week, aimed to intensify the enforcement of vehicle insurance laws across the region.
Police Constable Susan Scott, who led the operation, expressed satisfaction with the outcomes, stating,
“I am really pleased to see these results from the national campaign our officers took part in. A total of 67 uninsured vehicles have now been seized which will help to make our roads safer for all.”
The campaign underscores the importance of insurance for all drivers. Constable Scott highlighted that “the public are the ones who are forced to pay the price of uninsured drivers.” She emphasised that it is the driver’s responsibility to ensure they are operating a vehicle with the necessary insurance coverage, whether it is a personal or company vehicle.
“The law is clear,” she added, “all motor vehicles which are being used on a public highway must meet the minimum insurance requirements.”
The initiative serves as a crucial reminder to motorists about the ongoing commitment of law enforcement to tackle offences related to uninsured driving. “I hope the outcome of Op Drive Insured serves as a reminder to drivers that we continue to take offences like this seriously and we will seize vehicles where it is appropriate to do so,” Constable Scott concluded.
