There's a chance to see the spectacle in Scarborough on Saturday too.
Animated Objects have created 'Survivor', a 5 metre tall puppet which is part of a modern retelling of the Trojan Wars story. Called 'Odyssey: An Epic Adventure On The Yorkshire Coast'. this version is set on the beaches of a 'near future' Yorkshire Coast.
Lee Threadgold, from Animated Objects explains the meaning behind the puppet:
"The survivor is a young teenager from the city of Troy. We wanted to raise awareness of that side of the story. We very rarely hear about the people in the background. We always hear about the sword fighting and Odysseus and Achilles. That's where this story comes about from".
Lee explains what people will see in Bridlington this morning and Scarborough tomorrow:
"She arrives at the waters edge. If the water's calm enough she will arrive in the water. She is recovered on the beach. We create a giant sand art around her whilst she recovers. Then in the afternoon we stand her up at her full 5 metres. She walks along the sand and is greeted with live music and spoken word. We talk about her story and she tells us a little about her back story and how it fits in with the Trojan wars".
She has arrived on South Beach in Bridlington and will be recovered onto the sand at 10:00am. The sand art happens until 11:30am. At 1:30pm she will stand and walk and she'll be greeted by 200 school children singing.
Tomorrow she arrives in Scarborough at 9:30am with exactly the same timings as above opposite the Grand Hotel in South Bay.
If you miss the events today and Saturday, the puppet will be taking a ride along the whole Yorkshire Coast on Sunday on the top deck of an open top bus.
