The record attempt was to to mark the 125th anniversary of the publication of Bram Stoker's Dracula novel, which was inspired by Whitby and its Abbey.
Whitby Abbey asked people to turn up last night with strict guidelines on what was needed to be officially dressed as a vampire. The rules included wearing a black cape and fake teeth. Some attending really put blood, sweat and tears into their outfits.
The 'vampires' were greeted with 'fangtastic' live music as they were asked to go into pens of 250 people to enable stewards to get their teeth into COUNTing up.
After the counting was completed, Whtby Abbey confirmed a world record had been broken with 1369 vampires in attendance.
The previous record was just over 1,000 from 2011 in the USA.
