Whitby's Cinder Track Park Run is celebrating its first birthday today.
The weekly event takes place every Saturday at 9am.
Event Director - Matt Hewison - says it's not just locals who have been taking part in the event over the last 12 months.
The event has attracted over three thousand park runner sin the last 12 months with many local people being joined by Park Run tourists from around the country.
The Park Run website describes the run as offering "Majestic Views" saying:
The event is run along the historic tree lined Cinder Track, with the route offering majestic views of Whitby and the Esk Valley as you cross the iconic Whitby Viaduct. The newly resurfaced Cinder Track offers an ideal surface to enjoy your run, walk or jog. The start and finish are within the Whitby Sixth Form grounds by the Oak tree.
Matt Hewison says the cinder track itself is a great location for the event.
In keeping with the Park Run philosophy the Cinder Track parkrun is a fun, free event organised by volunteers for the benefit of everyone.
Matt says it's a great local event but has connections with a wider national and international community of runners.
