Claressa Shields targets Lauren Price fight in early 2027: ‘She always wants to fight the best’

Claressa Shields is looking to fight Lauren Price in early 2027.

Shields, a two-time Olympic gold medallist for the USA, is a multi-weight professional champion.

Most recently she moved down from heavyweight to reclaim the WBA and WBC 160lbs titles when she beat Kaye Scott.

Price is a unified welterweight world champion but as an amateur was a middleweight, winning Olympic gold at the Tokyo Games in 2021.

Shields attended Price's last fight and her promoter, Dmitry Salita told Sky Sports that she is in talks for a fight with the Welsh star early on in 2027.

"It's a fight Claressa is seriously interested in. She flew out to Lauren's fight earlier this year with that goal in mind," Salita told Sky Sports.

"It's a fight Claressa is seriously interested in. Claressa always wants to fight the best, and a matchup with Lauren would be one of the biggest fights in women's boxing - two Olympic gold medallists and world champions. We would love to see it come together."

Shields is looking to cement her legacy in the sport and reinforce her status as the best fighter in women's boxing.

"Claressa reinforces that status every time she steps into the ring," Salita said.

"From the beginning of her career, she has challenged herself against the best and made history along the way.

"Our goal is to keep making the biggest and best fights, and Lauren is certainly a fighter Claressa would welcome that opportunity against."
