Second person charged in connection with shooting of police officer in Nottingham

A second person has been charged in connection with the shooting of a police officer in Nottingham city centre on 18 October.

PC Lee Lane was shot in the foot after he approached two suspects at a bus stop in Angel Row at 4.50am, Nottinghamshire Police said. He continues to be treated in hospital.

A woman was charged on Thursday in connection with the shooting.

Detectives have now charged a man with assisting an offender.

Jahmal Ruddock-Senior, 35, from Bulwell, will appear at Nottingham Magistrates Court today.

Police said the incident happened after the officer approached two people acting suspiciously.

Aisha Zaman, 27, from Hyson Green, was charged with possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of that firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence.

She was remanded into custody after appearing at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Friday.

Several others have been arrested in connection with the incident and have been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Among them are two men, aged 24 and 30, and two women, aged 25 and 21, who were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

A 33-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and assisting an offender has also been bailed.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to get in touch.
