Whitby's Mayor is calling on the government to help support farmers and local volunteers who helped tackle the Langdale Moor fire.
Councillor Sandra Turner says there has been a large financial cost to those involved in getting the blaze under control.
"I have been in touch with the farmers and I've met with them on a daily basis down on the marina slipway, those farmers and all the support system around it, we owe them a debt of gratitude we can never repay. They have been absolutely outstanding.
You will have all heard about the a GoFundMe page. That's being used to support the farmers as we speak, certainly with the fuel that they've used, et cetera.
But one would hope, and I'll put it on record, that I would hope our government comes out extremely quickly. With a financial package to support everyone that was involved in the firefighting,"
Councillor Turner says the farmers battle will continue long after the flames are finally doused.
"The farmers, for them, it hasn't ended they're still trying to gather their livestock up, and even when they do gather that livestock, there's no moorland for them to graze.
So there is also a serious, serious issue that there's nowhere to put their livestock when they do get them back. If they get them back.
There's also the issue with the fencing that was burnt down. So it's far wider reaching than the fires under control."
