Town kept their heads as all around them were losing theirs to pull off a 1-0 success in Derbyshire.
There was just four minutes on the clock when Aaron Haswell fired them ahead.
Hosts Ilkeston then went down to ten men after two yellow cards in four minutes, for the same player, just before half-time.
Whitby created chances but couldn't add to their advantage though more frustration for the home side saw their manager dismissed deep into injury time.
Haswell told Whitby Town TV he was happy with his goal but happier with three points:
" Yeah, it's just one of them. It's a good area touching a nice finish into the bon corner that now way down to 10 men. And I think that's where we need to punish teams. We've set it for weeks on ends. So I think we just drop off when teams go down to 10 men or we're on top. So we need to start punishing teams 'cause it'll in the future come to buy us in the back end with solid all day.
"That's the main thing. In the last couple of games, we haven't been solid, consider too many goals. So it was good, a good to have a solid performance and a cliche, very tough place to come team. Many teams will, will get points here. So it's always good to get the three points here."
You can hear more from Haswell in the latest edition of the Codcast recorded on the coach home after Saturday's win.
Blues boss Gary Liddle told Whitby Town TV he agreed it was all about the victory:
Whitby Town host Stockton Town on Tuesday in their next outing.
Kick-off is 7.45pm at the Towbar Express Stadium, in NPL Premier.
