Morpeth Town ensured it was a miserable end to the year at the Towbar Express Stadium, on Boxing Day.
Whitby might think it was highway robbery from the Highwaymen, after missing a host of chances to get something out of the game, but Gary Liddle's side only have themselves to blame as their poor home record continued to the end of 2025.
However, it was the Blues who started brightest with the lively Donald Chimalilo forcing the away keeper to save low down, inside three minutes. He then denied Jake Charles with an acrobatic stop after Chimalilo turned provider.
At the other end, the visitors drilled over the crossbar from the edge of the penalty area, then fired off target midway through the first half.
The ball then flew around the away box with Harley Dawson the last to see an effort deflected wide.
On 27 minutes, Morpeth led, but Whitby were quickly back on terms. Within three minutes, Chimalilo burst through the away defence and drilled home for 1-1.
The visitors almost went back in front, with a shot on the turn, but Whitby failed to heed the warning and it was indeed 2-1 Morpeth, on 38 minutes.
The hosts changed shape at half-time as big striker Matty Tymon replaced Nathan McGinley, the Seasiders employing a back four, after the interval. Layton Watts came close, within six minutes of the restart, but Morpeth's stopper turned away his dangerous driven cross with no-one in blue following up.
Tymon then headed straight at the keeper and Charles nodded over as the home side piled on the pressure. Chimalilo shot wide on the volley and the impressive Morpeth goalie kept out Tymon's downward header brilliantly. He then held Charles' backheel and Morpeth held on bravely to take all three points and lift themselves four places to 15th in NPL Premier, just two places and two points below Whitby.
