After 15 minutes, Layton Watts came close with an effort from distance for Whitby.
At the other end, Alex Nelson executed a superb saving tackle to keep the scores level.
The visitors should have led late in the half as Sam Collins' teasing left-wing cross fell between Michael Woods and Watts when both were ideally placed at the back post.
Woods came close again with a deflected shot early in the second half.
His and Whitby's best chance saw the ex-Scarborough midfielder hook high over the bar when well set to break the deadlock.
Shane Bland saved well for Whitby to ensure a point in a 0-0 stalemate.
