Whitby Town are preparing for a crucial clash against Cleethorpes Town this Saturday, where a single point will secure their survival in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division.
Whitby Town face a pivotal afternoon of football this coming Saturday as they aim to firmly secure their Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division status against Cleethorpes Town in a three o'clock kick-off.
A single point would be enough to guarantee safety for the Seasiders, while a victory would remove any lingering doubt entirely.
Defeat, however, would leave their fate hinging on Prescot Cables’ result against Bamber Bridge, which is an outcome that manager Lee Bullock and his side will be extremely keen to avoid.
Whitby have endured a challenging run of form recently, recording just three wins in the whole of 2026. Their most recent outing saw them fall to a narrow three-two defeat away at Leek Town, despite the team taking a first-half lead through Lewis Hawkins.
Goalkeeper Shane Bland spoke about the gravity of the situation ahead of the weekend's vital fixture and called for the town to turn up and support the team.
"I think, in my 12 years here, I think this is the, probably the scariest relegation scrap I've been involved in. Normally we'd, we'd have been safe by now.
But I just think as a club, as players, we need to step up. Obviously fans need to be there on, on Saturday and we need everybody there. Um, whether, you know, whether supporters from, from the past have, have fell out with the club, you know, we, we need that shed, you know, full and, yeah, we need everybody to get over the line."
Their opponents, Cleethorpes Town, arrive at the fixture sitting safely in mid-table in ninth position, with neither relegation nor play-off qualification at stake for them.
The visiting side come into the game on a three-match winless run following a one-nil loss to Hednesford Town in their last time out on the pitch.
Despite the lack of pressure on the opposition, the Whitby squad is acutely aware of their own struggles throughout the year and the importance of this final opportunity.
Reflecting on the campaign, Shane Bland added:
"I think the team's, you know, the team's always been together. Um, I just think it's just consistency has killed us this season.
Of course it doesn't help when players are leaving towards the end of the season and, you know, it's just a massive void to, it's a massive void to fill and, yeah, just, it's just been a disappointing season all round and we just need to get the job done.
We've got, we've got one more chance to, to put it right and, and we have to put it, and we have to put it right otherwise, you know, we're in trouble."
Fans hoping to support the team in their fight for survival can purchase tickets on the day of the match.
Admission prices have been set at thirteen pounds for adults, nine pounds for concessions, and five pounds for under-eighteens.
