The Mayor of Whitby wants local people to get involved in creating a neighbourhood plan for the town.
The plan would allow the town council to influence planning decisions within Whitby.
Councillor Bob Dalrymple says the council will be seeking residents views about the towns future.
Neighbourhood planning was introduced by the Government under the Localism Act of 2011. It’s an important and powerful tool that gives communities statutory powers to help with their development.
The plan would set out planning policies for the town which would be used by the Local Planning Authority when considering planning applications
Councillor Dalrymple says it's an important tool for local communities.
The council is hoping to create it's own neighbourhood plan in conjunction with local residents and North Yorkshire Council.
Councillor Dalrymple says it's important that local voices are heard.
The Mayor has said that creating a neighbourhood pan will be one of the key areas that the town council will be focusing on in the coming months, and they will begin the processes of collecting evidence and sharing ideas about policies that could form part of the plan.
