We deserve some collaboration- that's the message from Whitby's Mayor.
Sandra Turner says North Yorkshire Council needs to talk more.
She's asked the local authority to support the town council by giving them more information:
"When North Yorkshire was first looking to go unitary, one of the biggest drivers of that was that they would work closely and collaboratively with every town and parish council. Now, just over the last year, we've had things happening in Whitby that we know nothing about. We had the infamous wheel on the West Cliff that we read about on Facebook.
"We've got our late sunken gardens that have been altered and improved, which we applaud, but we knew nothing about. We've got things like a deep clean we know nothing about, and when I say we know nothing about that, I'm not referring to North Yorkshire councillors giving us updates when they attend monthly meetings of Whitby Town Council.
"I'm talking about the information actually coming direct to Whitby Town Council."
She added that it's the least Whitby Town Council and it's people deserve:
"We represent the residents of this town, and I think we have a right to have that information come forward to us, not view it and access it via Facebook, or the supplementary information could come from us from, well North Yorkshire councillors. It's not working the way it was suggested it would in the initial start up.
"We are only a small residential population of around 13,000, but we do, on the figures, we get over 2 million visitors through this town every year and I think that we deserve some collaboration with North Yorkshire Council to make sure that anything that's implemented, we are in view of, informed of and take part in that decision."
A county council spokesperson said it's important to know that Whitby Town Council remains a consultee among many on such matters but the ultimate decisions rest with North Yorkshire Council.
