A challenging rescue for Whitby's Inshore Lifeboat will feature on BBC tv tonight.
Whitby Lifeboat crew will be on national TV tonight.
A rescue they performed this time last year will feature in the new series of Saving Lives at Sea.
Richard Dowson from the Whitby crew says the incident featured in tonight's programme highlights some of the challenges the volunteer rescue team face.
The new series of Saving Lives at Sea will feature a rescue the crew performed this time last year which didn't entirely go to plan.
The inshore lifeboat took on water in difficult conditions while rescuing to walkers cut off by the tide.
Richard Dowson says it demonstrates the dangers the crews face and the value of their training.
Featuring footage captured on helmet and boat cameras, viewers watch dramatic rescues through the eyes of RNLI lifesavers while meeting the people behind the pagers and those rescued by the charity’s lifesavers.
The popular 10-part documentary is now in its eighth series and includes the lifesaving work of RNLI lifeguards and volunteer lifeboat crews from around the UK and Ireland.
Including interviews with lifeboat crews and lifeguards, the series will also hear from the rescuees and their families who, thanks to RNLI lifesavers, are here to tell the tale.
The programme is on BBC Two at 8pm and will also be available on BBC iPlayer following broadcast.
