Unauthorised camping is not just a problem in areas identified by North Yorkshire Council.
Nine locations, in Scarborough and Whitby, have been identified where there has been significant and persistent littering, anti-social behaviour, crime and damage to the environment.
These include the open space surrounding Whitby Abbey and Pannett Park.
Whitby Town Council's Clerk says there are problems elsewhere too, here's Pam Dobson:
"I noticed that the Marina and Upgang ravine are not included in those areas, but they are two areas where there is camping, particularly Upgang ravine. The times that we've gone down in the morning and found barbecues still lying there and that sort of stuff, I would welcome the fines. But the areas that you have specified, or that North Yorkshire specified are not wide enough."
North Yorkshire Council's consultation phase ended last week.
