Robert Parkin has been involved in rescues on the Yorkshire Coast since 1990
Earlier this year on the 28th of April, Coastguard Rescue Officer Robert Parkin celebrated the significant milestone of 30 years service with Whitby Coastguard Rescue Team.
Robert says there have been some big changes over those 30 years.
This week, Rob was presented with the Clasp to his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal by Steve Hart, HM Coastguard Senior Coastal Operations Officer for Whitby in a socially distanced presentation at Whitby Coastguard Station.
Whitby Coastguard Rescue Team's Station Officer William Cook said,
"Rob's thirty years of service is a major achievement. Over those three decades, Rob has attended callouts at all hours of the day and night to help those in difficulty along our coast, this is a commitment which cannot be underestimated.
Through his long service and dedication, Rob has become synonymous with the Coastguard in Whitby and is held in the highest regard. He continues to be a key member of the team thanks to his vast experience, unrivalled skills and knowledge both of the job and the area and I would like to congratulate Rob and thank him for his service so far. "
Senior Coastal Operations Officer Steve Hart said,
“HM Coastguard would like to thank Rob for his 30 years service, dedication and commitment he has given and so far. His skills and professionalism along with a team effort have not gone unnoticed. A special thank you to Family for supporting Rob over the last 30 years. When circumstances permit, we look forward to celebrating this achievement with Rob at a suitable point in the future."
Robert spoke this week to Paddy @ Breakfast about the award and his 30 years service.
