Whitby-based Drama Podcast Launched

‘In the Footsteps of Bram Stoker’ is a brand new audio drama based in Whitby that will be launched at Halloween this year.

The story, that imagines the strange events and dark stories that may have inspired Bram Stoker’s Dracula, has a couple of extra twists that will make it a very special experience.

GeoStories use GPS location technology so that as listeners walk around Whitby the story chapters trigger automatically. The story is available as an app, direct from the App Store or Google Play.

Accompanying the story, Augmented Reality images can be seen through smartphone or tablet. These include bats and the cursed sailing ship ‘The Demeter’.

The two-part story covers Whitby and includes characters found at landmarks including the 199 steps, the Whalebone Arch and the Abbey.  Listeners will hear the voices of the people that Bram Stoker may have encountered on his visits to Whitby in the late 1800s.

For people who want the story but can’t get to Whitby, the whole story can be listened to from anywhere.

“Whitby provides a fabulous backdrop for our story, and the fact that Bram Stoker actually stayed there was an inspiration.” says Amanda Pearce, Director of Diva Creative Ltd who are producing GeoStories.

“Visitors to Whitby can actually hear the story unfold as they explore the town, in the same way that Bram Stoker might have himself when he was here over 120 years ago. Halloween provides the best opportunity to launch it as all things unexplained and unexpected are revealed.”

The creators have worked hard to combine great characters, a compelling story and extra visual features to engage audiences.

Supported by Creative England, Diva are developing the GeoStories project in collaboration with fellow Yorkshire-based creative company, Vanitas Arts, who bring their expertise in the craft of bold digital storytelling, developing visual drama, and creative audioscape design to the work.

In the Footsteps of Bram Stoker is the first GeoStory in a series; follow the GeoStories Facebook page @HelloGeoStories to find out more or go to the app store and search ‘In the Footsteps of Bram Stoker’.
