Voters in North Yorkshire will be choosing an elected mayor for the first time tomorrow.
The first ever election for a Mayor of York and North Yorkshire takes place tomorrow.
The mayor will have powers over public transport, adult education and housing as well as overseeing the police and fire services.
The new position will head up the York and North Yorkshire combined authority which will get powers and funding devolved from Westminster.
At the recent Whitby Hustings event, organised by Whitby Community Network, we asked the candidates what they would do for the Yorkshire Coast.
Felicity Cunliffe- Lister is the Liberal Democrat candidate.
Keith Tordoff is standing as an Independent candidate.
Paul Haslam is standing as an independent candidate.
Kevin Foster is standing as the Green Party Candidate.
here are six candidates standing for election on Thursday May 2nd they are:
- Felicity Cunliffe-Lister for the Liberal Democrats
- Keane Duncan for the Conservatives
- Kevin Foster for the Green Party
- Paul Haslam as an Independent
- David Skaith for the Labour Party
- Keith Tordoff as an Independent.

All six candidates had been invited to take part bur two of the candidates were unable to take part. We have since offered both those candidates the opportunity to record interviews on the topics covered at the Whitby hustings event but neither have responded to our approaches.
