Over 45 Warm Spaces have been opened in the Scarborough borough this winter as a result of a partnership between the Borough Council and local organisations.
The council’s Warm Welcome Fund was launched in November and has provided voluntary and community groups hosting warm spaces with quick and easy access to financial support, which can be used to help fund associated costs including energy bills.
As well a place to get warm and see friendly faces, anyone attending one of the venues is able to access to a range of support including housing, benefits, tax and financial advice.
The Councils' Partnership Manager - Jo Ireland - says it's been a real success.
£10,000 was allocated to round one of the Warm Spaces project with a further £5,866 allocated in December.
The partnership behind the rollout was hoping to prioritise the latest cash injection for warm spaces that can open at weekends and in evenings, as well as in parts of the borough that were lacking warm spaces provision such as Staithes, Hinderwell, Lythe, Sandsend, Castleton, Wykeham, East and West Ayton, Hutton Buscel, Wykeham, Folkton and Flixton.
Grants of up to £300 were made available for voluntary and community groups that would like to host a warm space. The grant offers quick and easy access to financial support, which can be used to help fund associated costs including energy bills.
Borough Council Partnerships Manager Jo Ireland says it's been a great community effort.
