Volunteer Trustees Sought to Help Guide Scarborough's Saint Catherine's Hospice

Saint Catherine’s Hospice in Scarborough is looking for committed individuals from a variety of professional backgrounds to join its Board of Trustees.

Saint Catherine’s Hospice, a vital care provider located on Throxenby Lane in Scarborough, has launched an appeal for committed and experienced individuals to step forward as volunteer Trustees.

The well-known charity says the new board members will help guide the organisation as it continues to grow and deliver compassionate, high-quality care to those who need it most across the local area.

According to the hospice, appointed Trustees will play a vital role in ensuring the effective governance and strategic direction of the organisation. By working collaboratively with fellow board members and the executive team, successful applicants will help safeguard the charity's long-term sustainability while upholding its core values and mission.

The hospice describes the voluntary position as a highly rewarding opportunity for people to contribute their professional expertise for the direct benefit of the community.

Margaret Middlebrook, chairman of the board at Saint Catherine's Hospice, said:

"As we respond to the evolving needs of our community, we are expanding our services whilst remaining committed to delivering specialist care in our palliative and end of life care unit."

In recent times, the Scarborough-based organisation has introduced several new services to further support its patients and their families. These new additions include dedicated respite care, a holiday flat, a bathing service, and a sensory room.

Furthermore, Saint Catherine's notes that its wellbeing services continue to be enhanced to provide a comprehensive programme of activities and therapies, aiming to support people across all areas of care.

To support this ongoing development, the charity is seeking individuals from all sectors. However, they are particularly looking for applicants who possess skills or backgrounds in healthcare or clinical services, chartered surveying and property, legal services, strategic planning, or organisational development.

They are also keen to hear from professionals with experience in systems, digital transformation or IT, income generation, retail, marketing, finance, accounting, and human resources or people management.

According to the charity, the key responsibilities for the trustee role include contributing to the development and oversight of the organisational strategy, as well as ensuring the charity consistently meets its legal, financial, and ethical obligations.

Trustees will also be expected to provide constructive challenge and support to the executive team, while actively acting as ambassadors for the hospice within the wider community.

The anticipated time commitment for the voluntary role is approximately one to two days per month. The organisation states that this time will encompass attending board meetings, preparation time, committee involvement, and occasional events.

The charity notes that there are several trustee positions currently available. They are encouraging applications from a wide range of candidates, whether they are already experienced trustees or individuals wanting to take their very first step at board level.

To help prospective applicants learn more about the roles and the organisation, Saint Catherine’s is opening its doors to welcome people for an informal information session. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to meet directly with the Chairman, the Chief Executive, and members of the executive team.

This open session is scheduled to take place on Wednesday the 15th of July, starting from 10:15 am.

Those who are interested in attending the session or learning more about the trustee positions are asked to register their interest by emailing the hospice's human resources department at human.resources@saintcatherines.org.uk.
