Ivan Ash, the voice of Whitby Regatta and a well-known broadcaster on the Yorkshire Coast has hailed the crowds at the event on Sunday.
The Red Arrows thrilled thousands gathered on the West Cliff and beyond at Sunday teatime.
Ivan, who has been announcing at and visiting the event for decades compared the numbers to the 1997 visit of HMS Endeavour.
Many stayed to enjoy Monday's traditional fireworks which closed the Regatta, but Ivan said Sunday was something special:
