In the early hours of August 21, two men were apprehended in Scarborough following reports from a vigilant member of the public regarding a vehicle behaving erratically in the area.
The quick response of local law enforcement and the monitoring capabilities of CCTV operators played a crucial role in the swift arrest.
According to North Yorkshire Police, the vehicle was tracked down to Marlborough Street, where officers arrived to find one man walking away from the car while another remained in the passenger seat. Upon stopping the pair, officers conducted a search that revealed suspected class A drugs and approximately £1,000 in cash.
The vehicle was found to be registered to a fictitious person, and a bank card belonging to another individual was also discovered inside.
The suspects, a 33-year-old man from Scarborough and a 35-year-old man from Ilford, were arrested on multiple charges. These include theft, taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, and possession of class A drugs. The younger man additionally faces charges of possessing criminal property, referring to the cash, and driving while disqualified.
Police seized several items during the operation, including the suspected drugs, the bank card, mobile phones, and the vehicle itself. Both men are currently in custody as the investigation continues.
