In a busy night of operations, North Yorkshire Police's specialist teams successfully apprehended two suspects following separate high-speed pursuits in the region.
The incidents unfolded on Thursday evening. At approximately 8:15 PM, officers on routine patrol along the A171 near Whitby attempted to stop a motorbike. Despite activating their blue lights, the rider accelerated away from the scene. In response, additional units, including the National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter, were deployed to assist in the pursuit.
Thanks to a vigilant member of the public who provided crucial information, police were able to locate and arrest the motorbike rider, a man in his 40s. He faces charges including dangerous driving, failing to stop, and driving without insurance. Police confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
Later that night, just before 1 AM, roads policing officers attempted to stop another vehicle in Malton. The driver evaded capture, leading officers on a pursuit that ultimately resulted in the vehicle going off-road. At around 3:20 AM, the vehicle was spotted again in Thirsk. Specialist operations officers quickly surrounded the area, and the vehicle was found abandoned in a field.
A police dog unit was brought in to track the suspect, resulting in the arrest of a man in his 20s on multiple charges, including failing to stop and dangerous driving. Like the first incident, inquiries in this case are also continuing.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police emphasized the department's dedication to tackling road-related criminal activity. "Working around the clock 24-7, our sights are firmly focused on intercepting those who think that it’s acceptable to use our road network for criminality," they stated.
The police reiterated their commitment to patrolling the 6,000 miles of roads in North Yorkshire, especially as they prepare for increased activity over the weekend. The department remains vigilant in its efforts to disrupt criminal behavior and ensure public safety across the region.
