Tourists Could Help Fund Local Services in Whitby

The town council is exploring future ways of funding local services as part of the local government shake-up.

Whitby Town Council is asking local residents for their views on whether or not it should take on the running of some local services when the borough council is abolished next April.

The borough's responsibilities will pass to the new North Yorkshire Council but, The town council could take over responsibility for things like parks, play areas or libraries.

Town Clerk - Michael King - says the services would come complete with any existing funding.

It's also hoped that tourists could help to fund some local services in Whitby in future.

Michael King says the public toilets are a good example of how the system could work, the town council took over the running of the loos from the borough in 2017

An online survey is open now and asks Whitby residents to comment on which services they would want to prioritise for local delivery and how they would want to fund them. You can take part in the survey using this link: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/TCKB66C
