The Seasiders travel to Cleethorpes Town in the Northern Premier League East tonight, looking to build on their back-to-back victories.
In their last away game, Bridlington beat Garforth Town 1-0 thanks to Michael Coulson’s first half header. They backed up the victory against Dunston at the Mounting Systems Stadium, with Sam Leverett’s penalty earning another 1-0 win.
Both games panned out very similarly, with the Seasiders creating lots of chances and taking the lead in the first half, before having to be defensively resolute in the second period as the opponents piled on the pressure.
A proud Denny Ingram after the Dunston game said:
“Firstly I’m absolutely delighted with another clean sheet. Going forward they’re a real threat, so to keep a clean sheet is incredible.”
He will now be looking for his side to keep the run going, as Bridlington enter an incredibly busy schedule, playing on Tuesdays and Saturdays for the next five weeks.
It will be no easy feat, though, as Cleethorpes have had an impressive start to the campaign. They occupy 2nd place with 24 points, five behind leaders Emley, with a game in hand.
The Owls have lost just once in the league this campaign: a 4-1 defeat at home against Dunston.
Craig Rouse, who joined the club as manager from Pontefract Collieries in the summer, has also seen his side win their last two games, 3-2 against Newton Aycliffe and 3-1 against Sheffield FC.
Coincidentally, both games saw Josh Walker score first for the Owls, before Curtis Bateson netted a brace.
Walker has enjoyed a prolific start to the season, with 11 goals in all competitions, but it’s not just him who’s been contributing.
Adam Haw has found the back of the net on 10 occasions, whilst Bateson has also scored seven times.
The Seasiders have a terrible record against Tuesday’s hosts, having lost all six games against Cleethorpes since getting promoted to the Northern Premier League.
Most recently, Bridlington suffered a 3-0 defeat in February, as Walker and Bateson were also on the scoresheet that day.
There’s familiar faces in both camps, as Sam Kay joined Bridlington from Cleethorpes last month. On the other hand, former Seasider Will Annan now plays for Rouse’s side.
