Three local Proudfoot supermarkets in Newby, Seamer, and Manham Hill will be taken over by Tesco later this year, while the Eastfield store remains under independent ownership.
Daily grocery shopping will change for thousands of residents as three local supermarkets transition to a national chain later this year.
Tesco has officially acquired the Proudfoot Group stores located in Newby, Seamer, and Manham Hill across the Scarborough area.
Shoppers will see the three affected sites continue trading under the independent Proudfoot name until Sunday the 4th of October.
Following the closure of the existing shops, a transitional period will begin. The Seamer and Manham Hill locations are scheduled to reopen as Tesco Express branches in the autumn.
Meanwhile, the larger Newby site will undergo a refit and is expected to reopen as a Tesco Superstore early in the New Year.
Supermarket access for Eastfield residents will remain unchanged. The Proudfoot Supermarket situated on Eastfield's High Street will be retained entirely by the Proudfoot Group and will continue operating as normal.

Retail executives from the national chain have confirmed their immediate priority is the store staff during the handover process.
