Stunning Astrophotography Greets Stargazers At Free Scarborough Exhibition

Visitors to Scarborough will explore the cosmic beauty of the night sky at a free photography exhibition running until the 3rd of August.

Stunning images of the Northern Lights and distant galaxies will greet visitors to a free exhibition in Scarborough this week.

The 'Celestial Adventures III' showcase will run at the Shakespeare Gallery until the 3rd of August as part of Scarborough Art.

Local astronomy and astrophotography team Astro Dog will host the event, featuring images captured across Scarborough, Dalby Forest, the North York Moors, and as far away as the Arctic.

Space enthusiasts will view photographs and time-lapse footage of night landscapes, the Milky Way, star clusters, nebulae, and the Sun. The North Yorkshire team has spent over a decade photographing the night sky, with their work previously appearing on national television broadcasts and in major newspapers.

The free exhibition will support the small local business during its off-season, as public stargazing experiences across the Howardian Hills and Yorkshire coast pause for the summer.

The Astro Dog team, Nicole and Simon, said:

"Our passion for night photography, astrophotography and aurora chasing is at the very heart of everything we do here at Astro Dog and is where all our celestial adventures began. It all began over a decade ago with our first captures of meteors and the Northern Lights, and we've been hooked on celestial adventures ever since."

"Following the incredible success of Celestial Adventures and Celestial Adventures II and all the humbling support you've all shown us along the way, we are absolutely thrilled to announce that we are returning with a brand-new photography exhibition!"

Alongside the photographs, attendees will browse a space-themed gift store offering real meteorites, meteorite jewellery, and merchandise. Prints of the exhibited images will also be available to purchase.

The team added:

"We are so excited to be hosting Celestial Adventures III, a brand-new Astro Dog night photography and astrophotography exhibition. Once again, we will be exhibiting at The Shakespeare Gallery the beautiful, historic Tudor-style building opposite the Scarborough Market Hall, and we cannot wait to share our latest work with you all."

"This year's exhibition will feature a selection of beloved favourites alongside a wealth of brand-new pieces, including images that have never been seen before. We'll be taking you on a journey through our celestial adventures across Scarborough, Dalby Forest, the North York Moors National Park and beyond."

The showcase will highlight nature's own fireworks, from lightning strikes to meteors, alongside colourful atmospheric phenomena.

The organisers said:

"We would love to invite you all to join us on a celestial adventure, a journey through space and time. Exploring the cosmic beauty of the night sky. From the splendour of a moonlit ocean, to blackened skies adorned with stars, to the majesty of the Northern Lights dancing above the quiet cliff tops."

"Take a closer look at the jewels of the night sky from millions of lightyears away, such as distant star clusters, nebulae and galaxies. Marvel at nature’s own fireworks from lightning strikes to meteors and stunning atmospheric phenomena that paint our skies in all of the colours of the rainbow."

The exhibition will open daily between 11:00 am and 5:30 pm at the Scarborough venue. Entry will not require a ticket, though donations will be accepted. Visitors might also meet Luna, the team's namesake dog.

Speaking about the preparation, the team said:

"We are over the Moon to be returning to the Shakespeare Gallery for another exhibition. The coming days will be a whirlwind of processing, printing and framing, but we can’t wait to show all of you some of our latest photographs."

"Seeing our work come to life in physical form for the first time is always the most magical feeling."
