The sports ground at Staithes has been taken over by the village's sports association.
A statement released by the association on Saturday night confirmed the good news:
'We are delighted to announce that this evening a deal has been reached with the current owners for us to buy the club.
'After much discussions over the past week, we have reached an agreement to buy the club. We are delighted.
'We thank the owners who have been superb with us in reaching a deal and as a token gesture have offered to sponsor the two sports teams for the next year or two.
'This is what us as a team of six members of the sports association have put all our efforts into and have got the deal required.
'More info on our purchaser and intentions going forward will be posted soon.
'Time for a celebratory pint!'
The club and field were due to go to auction this week.
