Staff Shortage Leads to Partial Closure for Filey School

Ebor Academy Filey will be closed to years 8, 9 and 10 on Wednesday.

The school say that due to a significant increase in staff absences over the last 24 hours, a decision has been made to partially close Ebor Academy Filey to pupils in Years 8, 9 and 10 on Wednesday 6th April.

In a letter to parents, interim headteacher Ms Britton said:

"I am genuinely sorry to report that due to a significant increase in staff absence over the last 24 hours, and following close consultation with our Academy Trust, we have taken the difficult decision to partially close the Academy to pupils in Years 8, 9 and 10 on Wednesday 6th April 2022.

Year 7 and Year 11 pupils should attend school as normal.

We are hoping to be able to welcome all pupils back on Thursday 7th April following a full staffing review to determine whether this will be possible. It is, however, conceivable that we may need to continue this bubble closure for the remainder of this week. I will keep you updated daily.

Please be assured we will do all we can to have all our pupils back in school at the earliest opportunity.

This is not a decision we have taken lightly, and I completely appreciate and understand the inconvenience that this decision will cause for many families. However, it would not be safe, or responsible, to keep the school open without the staffing levels we need for the safe running of our school. Ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of our pupils, staff and wider school community is our absolute priority, and we must ensure we have all the staff we need on site to support our pupils safely and effectively.

Whilst ensuring the health and safety of our pupils and wider school community is absolutely paramount, we remain committed to providing a consistent education for your child and are doing all we can to minimise any disruption to learning. Therefore, pupils in Year 8, 9 and 10 will follow their usual school timetable using remote learning. Work for pupils will be available on Google Classroom at 8.40am each morning and pupils are expected to follow their normal timetabled lessons when accessing work. If you experience any issues with remote learning, please do contact us at admin@fs.ebor.academy

Pupils who have an Education Health Care Plan and those pupils who are registered as Key worker students in Year 8, 9 and 10 should attend school as normal. Families who receive Free School Meals will receive supermarket vouchers by text. Any safeguarding concerns should be reported in to Mrs Emmerson, Safeguarding Lead on jemmerson@fs.ebor.academy or Mrs Pickering, Deputy Safeguarding Lead on apickering@fs.ebor.academy"
