The first case of the South African COVID variant to be discovered in North Yorkshire has been detected in the Scarborough Borough.
Public Health leaders say two people have been diagnosed with the South African variant of COVID-19 in the borough but that the cases are related to international travel and there is no indication of community transmission.
Louise Wallace is North Yorkshire's Director of Public Health. She says the people affected have take the right steps and self-isolated quickly.
North Yorkshire's local resilience forum say they have been in discussions with Public Health England who have made it clear that there is no need to start surge testing in the borough as has been seen elsewhere in the country.
