Slight Rise in Scarborough Borough COVID Infection Rate

Tuesday, 11 May 2021 09:39

By Carl Gavaghan, Local Democracy Reporter

The Scarborough borough’s Covid-19 infection rate has risen slightly in the past 24 hours.

The borough’s seven-day coronavirus infection rate per 100,000 people now stands at 13, up two on yesterday.

It means the borough is averaging 14 new cases a week, half of what it was a fortnight ago but up from 12 last week.

Hambleton and Ryedale now both have lower infection rates than Scarborough’s, with them all below the England average which is currently 22.

From Monday May 17 the next stage in he roadmap out of lockdown will be hit when hospitality venues are allowed to reopen for indoor service.

Groups of 30 will be allowed to meet outdoors and six people or two households can meet inside.

Restrictions around indoor sport, large events and foreign travel will also be eased.

Mobile testing facilities will be available in Whitby, Scarborough and Filey this week for anyone with symptoms to get tested.

William Street Coach Park in Scarborough is also still offering testing seven days a week from 8am until 8pm.
