Sammy Leighton has created the 'Lets leave no-one behind this Christmas' Facebook page.
Sammy is looking for donations of food and gifts so those who are elderly, vulnerable or lonely don't go without this Christmas. She has appealed for local support and as a result has a number of 'community contacts' for different parts of Scarborough and beyond.
These 'contacts' will become their own community hubs to which people can donate items and help distribute them from on Christmas Eve.
Sammy told Paddy earlier why she's created the page:
"We recognise across the town and country, lots of elderly, vulnerable, lonely people will have had a really tough year. We'd like to do some packages to be delivered to elderly, lonely people this Christmas to give them some Christmas spirit and make them feel like they're not alone this Christmas.
My inbox is pinging all the time. We're looking for people in the community to help with baking. We've got some hubs set up. Kim at Gallows Close Centre is looking after Newlands, Barrowcliff, Northstead and Scalby. We've got Sam Taylor in Eastfield. We've got Heidi covering Falsgrave. We're in talks with people in Edgehill, Seamer Road, Ayton and we're now looking for the old town, Burnsiton, Cayton and South Cliff".
Sammy says she hopes they'll get to many people:
We're hoping word of mouth, people looking out for each other in the community, will bring together a lit of people who would like to receive a package.
