Scarborough Wellbeing Walks, delivered by Scarborough Disabled Swimming Group (SDSG), are helping local people take positive steps towards improved health, wellbeing and confidence through gentle, accessible walking opportunities.
The walks form an important part of SDSG's wider conditioning and wellbeing pathway, supporting people to become more active, improve their physical fitness and reconnect with their community in a friendly and welcoming environment.
The project is led by a dedicated team of four volunteer walk leaders, who give their time to ensure participants receive encouragement, support and companionship while enjoying the many beautiful outdoor spaces across the Scarborough area.
The group say they are pleased to be working in partnership with SCORE Primary Care Network (NHS) and Scarborough & District Mencap, who are referring individuals that may benefit from gentle physical activity, social interaction and support to become active again.
Since launching earlier this year, they have successfully delivered their first four wellbeing walks, including routes around The Mere and Peasholm Park in Scarborough. Participants have enjoyed the opportunity to exercise at their own pace, meet new people and experience the benefits that walking can bring to both physical and mental wellbeing.
The programme continues to grow, and the group say they are looking forward to upcoming walks at Wykeham Lakes and other local venues in the coming months.
Whether you are returning to activity after illness, looking to improve your fitness, wishing to meet new people, or simply enjoy a gentle walk in good company, everyone is welcome.

The group say they look forward to welcoming new walkers as they continue to help more people improve their wellbeing, one step at a time.
Janet, Volunteer Engagement Worker, said:
"The success of Scarborough Wellbeing Walks is built on the commitment and enthusiasm of our trained volunteer walk leaders. Volunteers play a vital role in creating a safe, welcoming and supportive environment where people can improve their health, confidence and wellbeing through walking. Through our partnership with Ramblers Wellbeing Walks, we provide comprehensive training and ongoing support, enabling volunteers to develop new skills while making a genuine difference within their community. As the programme continues to grow, we are keen to welcome more volunteers to join our team. If you enjoy meeting people, spending time outdoors and helping others become more active, I would be delighted to hear from you. Please contact me at janet1@sdsg.org.uk to find out more."
