A fleet of twenty vintage motorbikes is setting off from Robin Hoods Bay to Whitehaven and back on Saturday to raise money for Saint Catherines Hospice in Scarborough.
Vintage motorbikes will hit the road for a cross-country endurance challenge in support of Scarborough's St Catherines Hospice.
Twenty pre-1986 choppers are making the demanding coast-to-coast trek, setting off from Robin Hoods Bay, travelling to Whitehaven, and then making the return journey. The fundraising effort aims to gather vital donations for the hospice, with riders collecting funds and rattling buckets along the extensive route.
Fans of classic motorbikes are in for a treat this weekend as the convoy makes its way across the country. Support for the charity ride has been significantly bolstered by PV Civils, a company that has provided the majority of the classic machines being used for the challenge, lending out fourteen bikes to riders taking part.
So far the following businesses have sponsored; Wilf Noble Building Supplies, Whitby Tyre & Exhausts, Fylingdales Inn and PB Civils Limited.

John Saville is one of the riders taking part in the event, he's hoping for people's attention to lead to more funds raised:
"Hopefully they'll get quite a bit of attention yeah and we'll be taking the buckets on the way rattling them and we've got a few stop off points the first one being five stars for the sandwich. We've got a few stops where we can catch up and we'll all be riding in to Windermere and riding together, yeah. We'll all be sticking together the best we can. We've got two vans following us there's David being one of them and Jeremy the other. They're good mechanics, so they'll be supporting us and if we have to strip a few engines down on the way, we'll make sure them 20 bikes get there and get back. It don't matter how much and how long it takes, we will do it, we'll get them all there and we'll get them all back. And a big thank you to PV Civils as well and is got 14 bikes is lending out to random guys in Robin Hoods Bay, we're doing it, so he's providing most of the bikes."
The fleet of step-through machines includes models with 50cc, 70cc, and 90cc engines. Because of their significant age, with some dating back to the 1960s, all the vehicles are exempt from MOT testing. This historic status adds an extra layer of mechanical challenge to the long-distance ride, making the presence of the support vans and skilled mechanics crucial for the journey.
John Saville explained the vintage nature of the bikes and the motivation behind the coast-to-coast journey:
"They're some absolute belters, I mean one of them I think's 1960s, one of the first ones ever done, they're all step through Hondas. So we've got under 50s, 70s and 90s, like I say, they're all pre 1986, so they're all MOT exempt. So it is going to be a bit of a challenge to get them there and like I said we've got some good mechanics on the way to stop and help us and get us fixed up. And like I said, yeah, we just get there, hopefully safe and and get back safe in one piece. And well, an absolute fantastic cause it is for."
