A Ukrainian woman who escaped her war torn homeland with her children and found a host family in the Scarborough Borough has been talking about the experience.
Some of the Ukrainian Families who found host families in the Scarborough Borough say it's been a tough year but the support shown by local people has helped them to settle safely in the UK.
Iryna was one of those who escaped the war in Ukraine with her children, she says they are now adjusting to a new life stage and accepting that they may be here longer than they had hoped.
Iryna has now been in the area for seven months, much longer than she had originally hoped for.
She says the desire to get back to Ukraine remains strong but it's not clear when that will be able to happen.
Iryna has praised the welcome from local people.
The latest figures show that just over 1,000 Ukrainians have found a safety in North Yorkshire with 135 of those in the Scarborough Borough.
The Sunflower Appeal Group have been helping find hosts in the borough for Ukrainians who have had to flee their homes due to the ongoing war.
The group have been arranging English lessons for the Ukrainian families and have been helping them to navigate the paperwork required to secure visa's, school places, benefits and work opportunities.
