A Scarborough teacher is swapping the classroom for 26.2 miles of pavement to raise vital funds for young people in the local community.
Joe Hall, a history teacher at Scalby School, will take on the iconic London Marathon this year to support the work of YMCA Yorkshire Coast.
Alongside teaching, Joe also volunteers as a Team Leader for Camp Sandcastle, a holiday programme delivered by YMCA Yorkshire Coast and funded through the government’s Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, helping local children enjoy safe, active and engaging activities during the school holidays.
Joe is now hoping the Scarborough community will rally behind him as he runs the 26.2-mile challenge to raise £2,000 for YMCA Yorkshire Coast.
Funds raised will go directly towards supporting young people and families across the area, helping deliver activities, opportunities and safe spaces for children who need them most.
Joe said:
"Camp Sandcastle is about giving local children a brilliant place to be during the holidays. Running the marathon is a big challenge, but if it helps raise money so more young people can benefit from programmes like this, it’s absolutely worth it."
YMCA Yorkshire Coast says every pound raised will help strengthen its work supporting young people across Scarborough and the surrounding communities.
The charity is encouraging residents, businesses and supporters to get behind Joe and help him reach his £2,000 fundraising target.
