Kingfishers very own Genie Martin has been selected for the 'Swim England County Development Programme'.
This is selected from the top swimmers in the county over 200 Individual Medley [long course], and is a brilliant achievement.
Credit must go to Genie who has worked hard to hit such success, and also to her coaches over the past few years who have taken time to nurture and develop her skill in to the talent she shows today. She is a product of the Kingfishers Performance Pathway and possesses all of the skill and drive to progress further through her competitive swimming career.
Kingfishers Swimming Club’s competitive swimmers have enjoyed a hugely successful start to the new season, with an impressive weekend of racing producing 75 personal bests and 53 top-three finishes.
After a busy and demanding couple of weeks of early-season competition, the club brought its opening block of racing to a close with a strong showing across the weekend Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th September.
Across the final two days of competition, 40 Kingfisher swimmers took part in a remarkable 145 individual swims, recording 75 personal best times.
That translates to 51% of all swims resulted in a new personal best, an excellent return at this early stage of the season.
The results were not limited to personal improvements, with Kingfishers swimmers also achieving 53 top-three finishes, meaning that more than a third of all swims resulted in a podium placing.
The final day proved particularly successful, with Kingfishers finishing second on the visiting club scoreboard, underlining the strength and depth of the team.
For a number of swimmers, the weekend also marked their very first experience of competitive swimming. Despite the inevitable nerves and challenges that come with stepping onto the blocks for the first time, the newcomers handled the experience superbly.
The club's coaching team also praised the swimmers for the resilience and team spirit they demonstrated throughout the weekend.
From first-time racers to swimmers competing in their umpteenth meet, there were personal bests, learning experiences and, inevitably disqualifications. What stood out was the way swimmers responded to every challenge, picked themselves back up and supported one another.
One particularly notable individual performance came from young Kingfisher swimmer Rory Wilkinson, who finished as the top nine-year-old boy on the final day.
While the statistics and medals provide an impressive headline, the club believes the biggest success of the weekend was the development of its swimmers and the sense of togetherness within the team.
Club representatives also paid tribute to the staff and volunteers who supported the swimmers throughout the demanding weekend, thanking Sara Bisby- Owen, Mike Draper , Leanne Anderson, Kelly Trotter, Jess Bulman and Aaron Yeoman for their commitment and efforts.
With the early-season racing block now complete, attention turns towards the next stage of the season, with preparations for the Winter Yorkshire meet, Regionals and the Spring Yorkshire Championships 2027.
For Kingfisher Swimming Club, the early signs are certainly encouraging — and with plenty more racing still to come, the team believe this is just the beginning.
