Scarborough Sea Cadets Take Charge

Sea Cadets from Scarborough have taken charge of the organisations training vessel this week.

A group of Scarborough Sea Cadets have been learning real world skills this week as they took charge of sailing one of the organisations powered vessels.

Pettry Officer - Lynsey Snowdon - says the cadets have performed well in the week long trainign excercise.

The eleven Scarbrough Sea Cadets have spent the last week sailing from Poole to Gosport.

The cadets were put in charge of various tasks on the training vessel including navigation, look out duties and staffing the mess.

PO Lynsey Snowden says it's been a great opportunity to learn real world skills.

On their final day the cadets carried out a MOB and Fire Drill which was followed by a harbour tour to see the new Royal Navy Aircraft Carrier, HMS Prince of Wales, HMS Dauntless, HMS Severn and various other ships moored along side.

The afternoon consisted of a good clean ship, some free time in Gosport  followed by the awarding of qualifications. Everyone one gained Offshore Hand level 1 for their efforts this week.

Lynsey adds:

"A huge thanks to the Permanent Staff of TS John Jerwood for a fantastic week and even better food.

The cadets have been amazing and they have all applied themselves fully, Offshore on any of the training ships is truly a time to remember and one TeamBoro have loved.

A shout out to our new friend from Portsmouth Sea Cadets, CFC Spafford and it’s been a pleasure to have you as part of the team!!
Also a massive thank you to PO Snowden and Sgt Langley for their time and efforts this week, they’re looking forward to going back to work for a rest"
